New solo show:
Alexis „Bust“ Stephens
„Couples“
25.4. - 6.6. // We are delighted to be showing new works by Alexis ‘Bust’ Stephens in the ‘Couples’ exhibition from 25 April.
Alexis ‘Bust’ Stephens inspires. The energy captured in his works is palpable for every viewer. With his dynamic, performative painting technique, he captures the moment, the power of now. His subject is dance.
Alexis Bust Stephens performed as a dancer in hip-hop and breakdance formations on international stages at an early age. At the same time, he found his way into the Parisian urban art scene as a painter. Today, these two forms of expression - dance and painting - merge in a unique way in his artistic work.
Sometimes you dance alone. But often with a partner. A dialogue through shared movement. Leading and being led. Dominating and surrendering. An exchange of emotion and tension. In Alexis‘ new exhibition at the Pretty Portal gallery, he mainly shows couples in dance.
His paintings mostly show dynamic, floating or spinning bodies, captured in a style inspired by the energy of Abstract Expressionism. In his work, movement, rhythm and physical expression become a gestural, pulsating visual language - full of intensity and life.
Alexis‘ works are currently being shown in a large solo presentation in the art museum of the city of Bietigheim Bissingen (www.3sat.de/kultur/kulturzeit/ausstellungstipp-alexis-bust-stephens-100.html), recently in Espace Saint-Pierre des Minimes, a church converted into a museum in Compiegne (France) (www.youtube.com/watch?v=miF28zzOvDQ), they are hanging in the Olympia Museum in Lausanne.

Pop Up Show with works from VERMIBUS at Zwanzig23 in Düsseldorf.
@vermibus @zwanzig23_by_lukas_jakobi
VERMIBUS processes photographs with solvents. In doing so, he modifies their aesthetics and, of course, how they are perceived. Once started, the chemical process must be carefully dosed and then stopped at the right moment in order to achieve the result VERMIBUS wants.
The Spanish artist has been active as a so-called adbuster for many years. In protest against the proclaimed ideal of beauty in advertising, which has been perverted to perfection and only allows happiness as a result of supposed appearance, he removes advertising posters, alters the motifs in his studio and then hangs them in the same place again.
Today, VERMIBUS takes his own photographs, edits them in the same process and explores the thresholds at which the images significantly change their aesthetics and message. #urban #art #urbanartist #streetart #photography #beauty #fineart #contemporary #art #düsseldorf #finedining #artandsoul #gallery #popupshow #collector #artlover ... Oliver Räke (MAGIC)
Anschlag 01-03
Graffiti covers the city with multi-layered messages. It is deposited on walls, pasted over, blurred, added to or painted over. Like sediments of time, these layers tell of voices that want to be heard - sometimes loud and direct, sometimes hidden under new layers.
MagicOne
Structures and layers
The city becomes a canvas of countless structures: concrete, metal, weathered paint. Electricity boxes and junction boxes become carriers of spontaneous messages, they serve to exchange information that is revealed in passing. Where official infrastructure and informal forms of expression overlap, a new, polyphonic texture emerges.

Opening reception
this Friday (14.3.) 7pm
STROM2 - Oliver Räke (MAGIC)
Oliver Räke left his first traces in Düsseldorf’s urban space at the beginning of the 80s with his pseudonym MAGIC. He quickly made contact with other pioneers of the scene such as Loomit and HownNosm. In the 80s and 90s, he shaped the graffiti landscape in Germany and neighbouring countries with them. Since then, he has been playing with the intersection of the urban environment and white cube. Oliver Räke, who enjoys legendary status in the international graffiti scene, today combines tagging with ideas from modern graphics and concepts of contemporary art and is one of the early representatives of ‘post-graffiti’.

Where official infrastructure and informal forms of expression overlap, a new, polyphonic texture emerges.
In passing
If you walk through the streets attentively, you will discover these layers – peeling stickers, shimmering lettering, traces of past interventions. The STROM2 exhibition makes these fleeting moments visible, showing how urban textures are constantly renegotiated through graffiti.
Oliver Räke sees the exhibition in the Pretty Portal gallery as a play space, a resonance space, a living structure in flux. On display are collages, paintings and unique screen prints.

Ab dem 14. März zeigen wir in der Ausstellung STROM2 Arbeiten des Düsseldorfer Künstlers und Graffiti Pioniers Oliver Räke aka MAGIC. @magic.nut_
... See MoreSee Less
