Monkeybird

Frankreich

Monkeybird "Between here and now"

A monkey and a bird: one stands firmly on solid ground, the other strives skywards. These two figures meet in most of Monkeybird's works. They embody the two faces of humankind: the monkey is the realist, the bird the dreamer.Between Dream and RealityThe works of the French artist duo reflect a search for balance between dreams and reality. They feature surreal, anthropomorphic figures that represent body and soul and are meant to embody complete beings. Laden with symbols and allegories, their images engage with human progress, sometimes emotionally, sometimes rationally.Mysticism and Ancient KnowledgeThe two artists name Leonardo da Vinci as one of their sources of inspiration. In their symbolic images, they combine mysticism and ancient knowledge with the awareness of a modern society. Their works are influenced by the fundamental idea of transience, by religious and mythological painting and by Art Nouveau.MonkeybirdThe two artists met in 2009 on the streets of Bordeaux. One was looking to develop his graffiti style, the other for new concepts and ideas. Drawing on their backgrounds in graphic design as well as object and industrial design, they developed an aesthetic that combines stencils, collage, painting, illustration, carving, screen printing and engraving in an unmistakable way. Today, they live and work in Paris. Over the past ten years, they have undergone a remarkable development and created numerous breathtaking murals, installations and exhibitions around the globe."Between Here and Now" An exhibition of works by Monkeybird (FR)Opening Friday, 29 November 2019, 7 – 10 pmExhibition 2 December 2019 – 31 January 2020 Monday – Friday, 11 am – 7 pm and by appointmentPretty Portal Brunnenstraße 12 40223 Düsseldorf
