What we think of ourselves, what others think of us, and what others believe we think of ourselves: for Laguna, there is a wide gap between these three images. Out of it, shifts in reality arise whenever people meet. These shifts are the material of his pictures.
Between inner and outer worlds
“There is a great discrepancy between what we think of ourselves, what others think of us and what others believe we think of ourselves,” says Laguna (translated). Then there are dreams and surreal moments that break up an often monotonous everyday life. “These moments are the most beautiful. They put a smile on our faces.” (translated)
Laguna’s works combine the concrete with the abstract. They are idiosyncratic and dreamlike and break with habitual ways of seeing. Inner and outer worlds collide and merge, in a playful variety of forms and colours, into a surreal visual world. Or, as Laguna puts it: “it’s not what we see but what we perceive, or vice versa ... or not.”
New works and a look back
In Harvest of times that go away leaving signs without memory we present new works alongside pictures from recent years, offering an insight into Laguna’s artistic development. On view are watercolours, drawings, collages and works in acrylic and oil.
About the artist
Laguna comes from Spain and is one of the distinctive voices of the Spanish urban art scene. His murals on large building facades can be found in many cities in Spain, Brazil and the United States. Last year he painted in Germany for the first time, at the CityLeaks Festival in Cologne. In recent years his work has been featured by magazines and blogs such as Juxtapoz, Unurth and Wooster Collective.
