Pau doesn’t paint pictures, Pau designs worlds. She invites us on a journey out into the beauty of Latin American influences and into the realm of an artist who playfully turns her inner world outwards with paper, wood and ink.
Between Two Worlds
In the works of Chilean artist Pau Quintanajornet, the boundaries between cultures blur. From the tension between her Chilean roots and her German home, a symbolism of her own emerges: strong women who grow like plants from the ground into the sky, deeply rooted in values and traditions, yet ready to rise to unknown heights. Birds are also an important part of Pau’s world. They stand for wisdom and calm, yet at the same time they spread their wings, free souls who master the highs and lows.
A Gift to the Public
Pau has painted at numerous festivals, including the 40° Urban Art Festival in Düsseldorf, the CityLeaks Festival in Cologne in 2011, and Latido Americano in Lima and Beantatuz in Tolosa in 2013. Her paintings adorn walls up to 15 metres long and 10 metres high, as in Lima. She works exclusively on legal surfaces in public space. The focus is not on her name, but on the art: “Painting walls is something that shapes our surroundings and helps create them: a gift to the public.” (translated)
Coming Full Circle
Until April of this year, Pau was travelling in South America again, absorbing the wild landscapes of Patagonia and the rugged charm of Bolivia and Peru, and finding her own artistic voice. In Coming Full Circle, she documents this chapter of her journey: a young artist takes stock, one story ends and something new begins.
